Fire causes major damage to Wurstfest structure

It was reported that a booth caught fire inside the Marketplatz building on the Wurstfest grounds on Thursday (Nov. 14) morning. Firefighters had contained the fire Thursday night but on Friday morning, the fire re-ignited causing extensive damage to the the building in an area measuring about a football field in length.

Firefighters said that the second and larger fire started around 6 a.m. and by the time the flames were extinguished, the roof collapsed onto the venue that has the iconic logo on the roof.

Our town is sad this morning as @wurstfest grounds are on fire. Please say a prayer for our first responders as they fight this fire today. @ Wurstfest

New Braunfels Fire Department has said there were no injuries due to the building being vacant. The festival had wrapped up it’s last day for the season a week ago.

As of 8:30 a.m., Landa Park Drive and Henman Island Drive is closed. The Comal River is also closed due to the runoff from the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown but investigators think that someone may have left something on from this past weekend.
