Extended Closure of Southbound I-35 Frontage Road Announced for Northeast Expansion Project

SAN ANTONIO, TX (June 18, 2025) – As part of the ongoing I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) Project, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced an extended closure of the southbound I-35 frontage road from Corporate Drive/FM 1518 to Evans Road to facilitate major construction operations, including steel girder and cap work.

📆 Closure Schedule:

  • Begins: 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025

  • Ends: 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025

During this period, motorists traveling through the Schertz and Selma areas should expect detours and plan for additional travel time.

🚧 Detour Routes:

Westbound Corporate Drive/FM 1518 to Evans Road:

  1. Turn right onto NB I-35 frontage road toward Schertz Parkway

  2. Turn left onto SB I-35 frontage road

  3. Enter SB I-35 mainlanes via the next available entrance ramp

  4. Take Exit 173 (Retama/Olympia/Forum Parkway)

  5. Continue on SB I-35 frontage road

  6. Use Olympia Parkway bridge to access NB I-35 frontage road

  7. Continue north to reach Evans Road

Eastbound Corporate Drive/FM 1518 to Evans Road:

  1. Continue onto NB I-35 frontage road

  2. Turn left heading north toward Schertz Parkway

  3. Turn left at Schertz Parkway to access SB I-35 frontage road

  4. Enter SB I-35 mainlanes via the next available entrance ramp

  5. Take Exit 173 (Retama/Olympia/Forum Parkway)

  6. Continue on SB I-35 frontage road

  7. Use Olympia Parkway bridge to access NB I-35 frontage road

  8. Continue north to reach Evans Road

SB I-35 Mainlanes to Evans Road:

  1. Take Exit 173 (Retama/Olympia/Forum Parkway)

  2. Continue on SB I-35 frontage road

  3. Use Olympia Parkway bridge to access NB I-35 frontage road

  4. Continue north to reach Evans Road
