COMAL COUNTY, TX (July 5, 2025) — A dangerous flash flood emergency is unfolding along River Road in Comal County as officials race to evacuate campers and residents between Canyon Lake/Sattler and Gruene amid rapidly rising waters and blocked roadways.

Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds confirmed that River Road, which winds along the Guadalupe River just downstream from Canyon Lake, is being systematically evacuated after flood sirens were activated Saturday morning. Four to six inches of rain have already fallen, with a slow-moving thunderstorm dumping as much as 3 to 5 inches per hour over the area.

“If you live near the river, don’t wait for conditions to worsen,” said Sheriff Reynolds. “Move to higher ground now and stay tuned to official updates from Comal County and the National Weather Service.”

Deputies were initially using sirens to alert and wake up campers along River Road, instructing them to leave immediately. As of 12:36 p.m., River Road became impassable near the 1st crossing. Evacuation routes to New Braunfels have been cut off, and a power line and fallen tree are blocking access north toward Canyon Lake.

Deputies Ordered to Seek Higher Ground

In a dire development around 12:40 p.m., deputies were advised to abandon vehicles if necessary and take shelter on higher terrain, as continued evacuations in either direction were deemed impossible. “All deputies are being advised to gather anyone they are with and get to higher ground,” said CCSO.
