San Antonio, TX – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Dunkin’ of San Antonio and the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation will bring a dose of happiness to the pediatric patients of CHRISTUS Children’s by celebrating National Video Games Day in a meaningful way. The Foundation will present a $48,400 Connecting Joy Gaming Grant, which will be used to purchase 20 PlayStation 5 gaming consoles for each patient room in the Inpatient Rehab Unit.
This donation is part of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation’s broader “Connecting Joy” program, launched in 2021, which focuses on providing hospitalized children with an opportunity to engage in gaming as a means of coping with their hospital stay. Gaming offers children cognitive stimulation, a sense of mastery, and positive distraction, all while aiding in their overall healing process. By funding gaming equipment, staffing, and connectivity, the program ensures that pediatric patients can enjoy a therapeutic gaming experience from their bedside.
The check presentation will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Child Life Zone of CHRISTUS Children’s, with media encouraged to arrive by 1:45 p.m. Attendees can witness how this initiative will help bring joy and a sense of normalcy to kids going through difficult times.
The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation continues to make a significant impact by empowering communities and lifting spirits nationwide. For more information on the Foundation and its community efforts, visit bringjoy.org and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
