City to Open Overnight Resilience Hubs This Weekend

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 22, 2026) โ€” With freezing temperatures and precipitation expected this weekend, City of San Antonio announced it will open six overnight Resilience Hubs beginning Saturday night, Jan. 24. The hubs will remain open through noon on Monday, Jan. 26, providing residents with a warm and safe place to stay during the severe cold.

According to forecasts from the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop sharply across the region. The overnight Resilience Hubs will offer shelter from the cold, access to power and device charging, free Wi-Fi, and basic supplies. Kennels will be available for pets in a separate area. Residents are encouraged to bring their own clothing, medications, and personal supplies when possible.

Daytime Places to Stay Warm

City libraries, community centers, and senior centers will also serve as warming locations during their regular hours of operation. A full list of locations and hours is available at SA.gov/ColdWeather or by calling 3-1-1 (210-207-6000) between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily.

Transportation Assistance

VIA Metropolitan Transit is offering fare-free rides to and from warming locations on VIA bus service and VIA Link within service zones. Riders should notify the bus operator when boarding. VIAtrans passengers should inform the reservation agent when booking. Residents with disabilities who require transportation assistance may also call 3-1-1 to arrange a ride.

Support for Unsheltered Neighbors

The City is working with community partners to conduct outreach and operate additional temporary overnight shelter space at the following locations:

  • Bode Community Center โ€“ 901 Rigsby Ave., 78210

  • Communities Under the Bridge (CUB) โ€“ 724 Chestnut St., 78202

  • Corazon San Antonio โ€“ 504 Ave. E, 78215

  • New Direction Church โ€“ 1139 Gembler, 78219 (all individuals) and 1802 Guadalupe, 78207 (female only)

Pets are welcome at all shelter locations. The Cityโ€™s Homeless Services and Strategy Street Outreach Team will provide transportation to shelters and distribute emergency blankets and supplies to those who decline shelter.

The Community Connections Hotline at 210-207-1799 will operate 24 hours a day beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. Residents are encouraged to call for themselves or on behalf of someone in need. The hotline provides real-time information on available shelters and connects unsheltered neighbors with transportation and cold-weather resources.

Safety and Preparedness

City officials urge residents to stay home unless travel is necessary and to use caution on potentially icy roadways. Residents are also encouraged to ensure emergency alerts are enabled by visiting SA.gov/Alerts.
