As COVID-19 cases are spreading and more people in the community are testing positive, San Antonio has become a hotspot for the virus. Saturday the city recorded a record of 795 additional confirmed coronavirus cases. All of this data is available on the city’s website for the public to see.
These high amount of cases led the City of San Antonio along with the Bexar County Office of Emergency Management to initiate the Wireless Emergency Alert system (WEA). The message was sent to people’s cellular devices within the county to warn residents to stay home. This system is similarly used just like an Amber Alert to broadcast a message.
At 7:30 p.m. Mayor Ron Nierenberg emphasized the importance of the decision to use the WEA on his Facebook page.
