City of San Antonio Announces Thanksgiving Holiday Closures and Service Adjustments
SAN ANTONIO (November 25, 2024) – In observance of Thanksgiving, San Antonio City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024. Public safety services, including Police, Fire, and EMS, will remain fully operational throughout the holiday. Other city services and facilities will operate on modified schedules.
Key Service Updates
Public Safety:
- Police and Fire personnel, as well as EMS, will be on duty.
- The 3-1-1 Call Center will operate for urgent concerns on Thanksgiving Day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Friday, November 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours for specific issues like animal emergencies and traffic signal malfunctions.
Animal Services:
- Animal Care Officers will be on duty.
- The Animal Care Services Lobby and Adoption Center will be closed Thursday but open Friday with modified hours (11 a.m.–7 p.m.).
Parking:
- Free parking at city-operated garages, lots, and on-street meters will be available on Thanksgiving Day.
- On Friday, November 29, free parking will only apply to on-street meters.
Waste Collection:
- Thursday’s garbage, recycling, and organics collection will shift to Friday, November 29.
- Friday’s collections will occur on Saturday, November 30.
- Brush and bulky waste centers will be closed Thursday and Friday, reopening Saturday, November 30.
Facilities and Administrative Offices:
- Mixed Schedule: La Villita and Market Square shops, the Spanish Governor’s Palace, and the Alamodome Box Office will be closed Thursday and open Friday.
- Closed Both Days: Libraries, community centers, fitness centers, and most administrative offices will remain closed through Friday, November 29.
Open Both Days:
- City parks and trails will remain accessible, and limited Fitness in the Park classes will be offered.
- Municipal Court magistration services and SAPD detention centers will remain operational.
Additional Notes
Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers and Corporate Offices will remain closed throughout the Thanksgiving week. Senior nutrition sites and comprehensive centers will also observe the two-day holiday closure.
