CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Westover Hills earns top-level stroke care designation
San Antonio hospital becomes the first and only Comprehensive Stroke Center on the cityโs West Side
SAN ANTONIO โ CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital โ Westover Hills has earned a Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from DNV, becoming the first and only hospital on San Antonioโs West Side to receive the designation.
The designation recognizes the hospitalโs ability to provide advanced, evidence-based treatment for patients experiencing some of the most complex strokes. Comprehensive Stroke Centers are expected to provide capabilities including rapid diagnosis, advanced imaging, neurointerventional and neurosurgical procedures, and coordinated multidisciplinary treatment.
Hospital officials said the designation will expand access to advanced stroke services for patients in San Antonio, West Bexar County and surrounding communities across South and Central Texas.
โThis designation represents dedication by an exceptional team focused on delivering the highest level of stroke care,โ said Dr. Ryan Morton, a neurosurgeon with CHRISTUS Health. โWhen a stroke occurs, every second matters.โ
Morton said the hospital has developed an integrated approach that allows its medical teams to quickly evaluate stroke patients, provide advanced interventions when necessary and continue comprehensive care throughout recovery.
Dr. Manica Isiguzo, chief medical officer for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital โ Westover Hills, credited physicians, hospital associates and EMS partners for working together to provide coordinated care.
โMost importantly, it means our community has access to a higher level of coordinated stroke care right here in their backyard,โ Isiguzo said.
Derrick Cuenca, CEO of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital โ Westover Hills, called the designation a milestone for the hospital and the communities it serves. He said patients and families now have greater access to advanced stroke treatment, specialists and an integrated care team closer to home.
The hospital said the certification comes as timely access to specialized stroke treatment remains critical to improving patient outcomes.
