Barbacoa & Big Red Festival 2023: A Flavorful Fiesta for San Antonio Foodies!

Are you ready, San Antonio? Get your taste buds and dancing shoes ready because the Barbacoa & Big Red Festival 2023, presented by H-E-B, is just around the corner! This beloved San Antonio tradition will take place at the vibrant R&J Music Pavilion (18086 Pleasanton Rd.), bringing together two iconic flavors that have become synonymous with the city’s culture.

Barbacoa and Big Red, a match made in culinary heaven, have been a San Antonio staple for generations. It’s a combination that’s as inseparable as peanut butter and jelly. The spicy, tender barbacoa meat in a taco finds its perfect complement in the cool, sweet, and creamy Big Red soda. This delectable duo is more than just food; it’s a cultural phenomenon that brings the community together.

The festival even has its own anthem, a song by the late Randy Garibay, and carried on by his brother, the late Ernie Garibay, until his passing in 2019. This song is a testament to the enduring love San Antonians have for the unique pairing of barbacoa and Big Red.
