San Marcos, TX – July 16, 2025 – IKEA has officially opened its doors in San Marcos, marking a major milestone with the debut of its first-ever small-format store in Texas. Located in the San Mar Plaza shopping center at 917 SH-80 N, the new 35,000-square-foot store welcomed eager customers this morning during a lively ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration.

The festivities kicked off at 9:00 a.m. with a performance by the San Marcos High School Mariachi Band, exclusive giveaways, and plenty of excitement as community members gathered to experience IKEA’s signature design and affordable home furnishings in a more convenient, locally tailored format.

The new store is part of IKEA’s broader strategy to reimagine its customer experience with smaller, more localized retail spaces. Unlike traditional IKEA warehouse stores, the San Marcos location focuses on curated inspiration and immediate convenience. Shoppers can explore over 2,500 products on display, with 2,000 items available to take home the same day. The store also includes a Swedish Food Market with a selection of traditional treats.

Customers were encouraged to line up early for a chance to receive IKEA gift cards, furniture giveaways, and limited-edition soft toys for the first 100 children. Regular store hours will run from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily.

IKEA San Marcos will also offer full access to IKEA’s entire product catalog through online ordering, with affordable delivery options and free in-store pickup. Additional services include TaskRabbit assembly and enhanced IKEA Family benefits.

As IKEA continues to grow across the U.S., this opening signals a new era of convenience-driven retail, tailored to local communities like San Marcos.
