Aquatica Unveils Tikitapu Splash: Texas’ Ultimate Water Playground

SAN ANTONIO, TX. – Aquatica, Texas’ premier waterpark, made waves on April 6th with the announcement of the grand opening of Tikitapu Splash, a sprawling 15,000 square-foot multi-level water playground. Boasting over 100 innovative spray-and-play elements, four thrilling slides, and three colossal water-dumping buckets, this new attraction promises to revolutionize aquatic entertainment in 2024.

The park marked the occasion with a lively grand opening ceremony attended by Aquatica Park President Jodi Davenport and Vice President David Skelton. In a playful twist, the executives took the inaugural plunge down one of Tikitapu’s water slides, dressed in their business attire. As bubbles filled the air, local children joined in the excitement by dousing the Aquatica leaders with buckets of water as they passed under the play area’s second story.

“We are thrilled about the grand opening of Tikitapu Splash and are delighted to introduce this all-new play area to our guests,” exclaimed David Skelton, Vice President of Aquatica. “Continuously seeking to enhance our guests’ experience, Tikitapu Splash offers exciting, interactive, and creative ways to beat the Texas heat.”

In keeping with Aquatica’s tropical oasis theme inspired by the Māori culture of New Zealand, Tikitapu Splash derives its name from Lake Tikitapu, also known as Blue Lake, nestled in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand’s North Island. The name Tikitapu carries significance in Māori lore, representing a sacred necklace believed to have been lost in the lake by the daughter of a revered chief.

Adjacent to Whanau Waters, a series of shallow water pools, Tikitapu Splash serves as an ideal addition for children seeking relief from the scorching sun. The expansive play area features dozens of kid-friendly play elements and gently introduces young adventurers to their first water slide experience. Spanning over 15,000 square feet, Tikitapu Splash stands as a towering rain fortress adorned with vibrant hues, offering a kaleidoscope of excitement and adventures. Among its highlights are:

– Three towering buckets, each releasing over 1325 gallons of water, creating refreshing cascades for eager visitors below.
– Four exhilarating water slides designed to cater to thrill-seekers of all ages.
– A dazzling array of over 100 new spray-and-play elements, including geysers, vibrant water cannons, and lively waterspouts.

Aquatica promises a spectrum of experiences, from serene relaxation to heart-pounding thrills. Visitors can unwind in tranquil pools or embark on adrenaline-pumping rides like Riptide Race, a dueling racer slide, or Ihu’s Breakaway Falls, the tallest drop slide in Texas. Animal enthusiasts can marvel at attractions like Stingray Falls, where riders encounter stingrays and tropical fish, or opt for the unique Stingray Encounter in Ke-Re Reef.
