SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 22, 2025) โ Beloved San Antonio eatery Alamo Biscuit Co. is bringing flavor and flair to the heart of downtown with its newest location on the River Walkโcomplete with vibrant concha-inspired umbrellas that pay tribute to the city’s rich culture and culinary traditions.
The restaurant, which officially opened its third outpost on March 26 near Rivercenter Mall and across from Margaritaville, has quickly brightened its corner of the River Walk with eye-catching “Concha Umbrellas”โa playful nod to the traditional Mexican sweet bread and a continuation of the bakery’s signature motif.
Owner and founder John Vale teamed up once again with local artist Nicholas Monroe, the creative mind behind the iconic Concha Bike seen at the original Medical Center location, to dream up the newest installation. Funded entirely by Alamo Biscuit Co., the whimsical umbrellas reimagine the classic River Walk patio aesthetic in the form of oversized, pastel-colored conchas.
โI wanted to add a burst of color to this part of the River Walk and knew it had to reflect who we are,โ said Vale. โThe idea of concha-shaped umbrellas just popped into my head. I called Nicholas right away and he brought it to life with these amazing Willy Wonka-sized creations.โ
More Artโand a Barโon the Way
The Concha Umbrellas are only the beginning. Vale has commissioned Monroe to paint a new mural and build a custom two-seater Concha Bike for the River Walk location. A patio bar is also currently under construction and expected to open later this summer.
24/7 Dining with a Local Twist
Alamo Biscuit Co.’s new downtown spot offers all-day dining with an expansive menu that features beloved brunch items, house-smoked brisket, all-day barbacoa, handmade pizza (whole or by the slice), and even a full vegan menu. Coffee lovers can enjoy a full-service espresso bar, while night owls can revel in the convenience of a 24/7 operation.
โItโs literally a one-stop shop,โ said Vale.
Fiesta Fun Kicks Off at the Medical Center
In addition to celebrating their downtown expansion, Alamo Biscuit Co. is gearing up to host the second annual Taste of the Medical Center at their original location. The Fiesta-sanctioned event takes place on Wednesday, April 23, from 6 to 11 p.m., and features over a dozen local restaurants offering tastings and competing for top honors.
โWeโre proud to be part of the Fiesta tradition,โ said Vale. โThink of Taste of the Medical Center as a more intimate, affordable version of Taste of the Northside.โ
