SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 30, 2025) — The Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center (RCC) is celebrating a major milestone this year: five decades of providing help, hope, and healing to survivors of sexual violence and their families. The nonprofit organization will commemorate its 50th anniversary on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, with a special celebration held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Betty Kelso Center at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.
What began in 1975 as a grassroots movement founded by a small group of volunteers has grown into one of the region’s most trusted and vital support systems for survivors of sexual assault. Over the past 50 years, the RCC has served thousands across Bexar County and the surrounding areas, offering 24/7 crisis intervention, trauma-informed counseling, peer support, legal and medical advocacy, and prevention education programs aimed at ending sexual violence in the community.
“Fifty years ago, a small group of people believed that no one should face trauma alone,” said Audra Atzger, CEO of the Rape Crisis Center. “Because of their courage and compassion, RCC has become a trusted source of support for survivors and a vital voice for prevention and education in our community. This anniversary is a time to honor our past, uplift our present, and commit to a future free from sexual violence.”
The upcoming celebration will feature a luminaria reception, survivor tributes, community recognitions, live entertainment, and a walk through RCC’s history—highlighting key stories and milestones that reflect the organization’s impact and evolution.
