In a heartfelt farewell, Greg, the fourth-generation owner of Bobbie’s Café, announced the closure of the beloved South Flores location, marking the end of an era for a restaurant that has been a cornerstone of the San Antonio community since 1986. The announcement, shared in a deeply personal letter on social media, resonated with many who have cherished their time at the family-owned establishment.
For Greg, Bobbie’s Café was more than just a restaurant—it was a living legacy, a place where memories were made, and life lessons were learned. In his letter, he recalled how his grandfather taught him to care for every piece of equipment in the café, spending Mondays cleaning and tinkering, all while old country music played in the background. It was his grandfather’s warmth, his grandmother’s meticulous holiday decorations, and his parents’ tireless work ethic that shaped Greg’s love for the restaurant and the community it served.
From the age of 12, Greg was immersed in the world of Bobbie’s Café, helping out on weekends and after school, learning the value of hard work, and understanding the importance of appreciating customers. “They were everything to us,” he wrote, reflecting on the countless hours spent in the dish pit, dreaming of the future while washing dishes.
The café was a gathering place, a spot where generations of families came together, shared meals, and made memories. For the community, Bobbie’s Café was more than just a place to eat—it was a home away from home, filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of home-cooked meals.
Greg’s wife, Ana, joined the family business, stepping into the role his grandmother once held. Despite her career in the beauty industry, Ana embraced the café with open arms, ensuring that every customer felt like family. Together, they watched their children grow up within the walls of the café, continuing the family tradition of hospitality and service.
However, the decision to close the South Flores location was not an easy one. As Greg shared, the family had outgrown the small, shanty building that had housed so many memories. “Closing this location was never something we planned,” he wrote, acknowledging the difficult reality they had to face. But even in this bittersweet moment, Greg reminded the community that it’s never the building that makes a place special—it’s the people.
As they bid farewell to the South Flores location, the family remains committed to continuing the legacy of Bobbie’s Café. Greg expressed excitement for the future, promising that the spirit of Bobbie’s will live on in a new location, where they will continue to serve food made with love and provide the exceptional service their customers have come to expect.
“Thank you for being a part of our journey,” Greg wrote, ending his letter with gratitude and love. The San Antonio community, in turn, thanks Bobbie’s Café for decades of memories, meals, and moments that will never be forgotten.
While the South Flores location may be closing, the heart of Bobbie’s Café beats on, ready to create new memories in a new chapter of its storied history.
