New HOV lanes on I-10 open

Great news to those who are driving with another person on I-10 starting at Ralph Fair Road (FM3351) till La Cantera Parkway or vice versa.
Those vehicles can now take advantage of the High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in both directions of the interstate in NW Bexar County. You will be able to tell which is the HOV lane by the diamond marking on the roadway and posted signs.
TxDOT has plans on placing HOV lanes on Highway 281 starting at Stone Oak Parkway till Loop 1604 both directions but won’t be completed until 2021. An extension project beginning north of Stone Oak Parkway to Borgfield Road will be constructed until 2023.
There will be two phases of HOV lanes on 281. Phase one will be three miles and phase two will be six miles.
HOV lanes are only for vehicles with two or more persons, buses, motorcycles, VIA and emergency vehicles. No RV’s or Tractor Trailers will be allowed to use those dedicated lanes. Drivers that utilize the HOV lanes must abide by the posted speed limit.
HOV violators will be regulated by the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriffs Department as well as the Texas Highway Patrol.
