2026 SA110 Memorial Climb Canceled for September 11
SAN ANTONIO – The 2026 SA110 Memorial Climb will not take place on September 11 as originally planned after organizers were unable to secure an alternative venue following the loss of the Tower of the Americas as the event’s host site.
SA110 organizers announced the change after weeks of searching for another San Antonio venue capable of accommodating the annual memorial event.
According to organizers, several potential locations appeared close to being confirmed, leading the organization to hold off on making an announcement while it worked toward securing a final venue. A last-minute option being considered ultimately fell through as well.
“We held off on communicating because we kept expecting to come back to you with a solid, confirmed answer rather than a series of uncertain or changing updates,” organizers said in a message to participants and the community.
With September 11 approaching and no confirmed location available, organizers said they could no longer ask participants to continue waiting.
The organization also apologized for the lack of updates during the search, acknowledging that participants, volunteers and supporters needed information to make their own plans.
While the September 11 climb will not happen as scheduled, organizers stressed that they have not completely given up on holding the 2026 SA110 Memorial Climb.
The organization is actively exploring alternative options that could allow an in-person event to take place on a future date.
SA110 honors the 344 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers and nine EMS personnel who lost their lives as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
“That mission isn’t going anywhere,” organizers said. “Our commitment to Never Forget does not end here.”
In the meantime, organizers are also developing plans for a virtual gathering on September 11, which could include a shared moment of silence, a small ceremony and a tribute honoring the fallen.
Additional information about a possible new date and future plans for SA110 will be released once organizers have firm details.
“To everyone who registered, trained, volunteered, supported, or simply planned to stand beside us on September 11th: thank you,” organizers said. “We do not take your commitment, your patience, or the place SA110 holds in this community lightly.”
