Whataburger and Trinity University teamed up once again to celebrate San Antonio’s brightest stars in education at the 2025 Trinity Prize in Teaching Excellence ceremony held on May 9. The event, hosted by Trinity University’s Department of Education and its Center for Educational Leadership, brought together educators, administrators, and community leaders to recognize the extraordinary work of teachers across the region.

Now in its 43rd year, the Trinity Prize is considered one of the most prestigious honors in San Antonio education, awarded annually to one outstanding teacher from each participating district. Honorees are selected based on exceptional classroom performance, leadership, contributions to the profession, and unwavering dedication to students and the community.

Whataburger CEO Debbie Stroud attended the ceremony to personally congratulate this year’s honorees. As part of Whataburger’s Feeding Student Success initiative, each recipient was awarded a $1,000 cash prize, a $350 Amazon gift card for a student organization or school initiative, and a coveted “Whataburger for a Year” prize package.

“These educators are the heartbeat of our community,” said Stroud. “Their impact reaches beyond the classroom, shaping our city’s future one student at a time. We’re proud to celebrate their dedication and passion.”

In addition to the prizes, each honoree received a hand-crafted blown glass apple from local artist Garcia Art Glass and a mayoral commendation from San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, a 1999 Trinity University alumnus.

Trinity University President Vanessa B. Beasley, Ph.D., and Provost Megan Mustain, Ph.D., also delivered remarks, reinforcing the institution’s long-standing commitment to excellence in education and community leadership.

The Trinity Prize in Teaching Excellence continues to shine a spotlight on the value of outstanding educators across San Antonio’s Pre-K through post-secondary landscape—recognizing not only their professional achievements but their role in inspiring future generations.
