San Antonio, TX – April 3, 2025 – As part of the ongoing I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) Project, TxDOT has announced a full weekend closure affecting two major ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-35 interchange. The closures will take place from 9 p.m. Friday, April 4, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, for the installation of steel girders.

WHAT’S CLOSING:

The westbound collector ramp of Loop 1604 at the I-35 interchange.
The northbound I-35 connector ramp to westbound Loop 1604.

These closures will significantly impact traffic in the area, particularly near The Forum, IKEA, and surrounding businesses — though access to all businesses will remain open throughout the weekend.

🔁 DETOUR DETAILS:

🔷 Eastbound Loop 1604 to I-35
Traffic will use the SB I-35 ramp, exit at Pat Booker Road, and loop back via the access road to reach NB I-35 or continue on.

🔷 WB Loop 1604 & SB I-35
Drivers will exit to NB I-35, then take Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway, use the overpass, and access the SB I-35 frontage road to rejoin Loop 1604 WB.

🔷 NB I-35 to WB Loop 1604
Traffic will detour via Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway, cross over to the SB I-35 frontage road, then use the entrance ramp to rejoin Loop 1604 WB.

🔷 SB I-35 to WB Loop 1604
Use the Lookout Road exit, follow signs to the I-35 Access Road Bridge, cross over to NB I-35 frontage road, continue to Pat Booker Road intersection, and then re-enter Loop 1604 WB.
