Harvey E. Najim Tackles College Hunger with First On-Campus Mobile Food Distribution at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, TX — March 27, 2025 — Local philanthropist Harvey E. Najim is taking a bold step to address food insecurity among college students with the launch of the first-ever mobile food distribution on the UTSA Main Campus, in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank. This initiative will officially kick off during UTSA’s Day of Service on Saturday, March 29, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Student Union Building.
The mobile distribution, which is pre-registered for 150–200 UTSA students and families, marks a milestone in UTSA’s commitment to student wellness and access to basic needs. It’s also a central part of the university’s annual Day of Service, a campus-wide event where hundreds of students, staff, and faculty volunteer to give back to the San Antonio community.
One of the day’s most meaningful activities will see students stepping up to help their peers by distributing food alongside staff and volunteers.
“Harvey Najim is a great champion for students of all ages in our community, and his support for college food security is unprecedented,” said Eric Cooper, President & CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. “His investment ensures our students can focus on their education without worrying about where their next meal will come from.”
Through 2034, Mr. Najim has pledged to fund eight mobile food distributions per year across UTSA campuses, as well as provide funding for the Roadrunner Food Pantry, which offers perishable and nonperishable items to students in need. His contributions directly enhance the availability of nutritious food to students facing food insecurity.
The event will include appearances and interview opportunities with:
-
Harvey E. Najim, Chairman of the Board, Najim Charitable Foundation
-
Michael Guera, Chief Philanthropy Officer, San Antonio Food Bank
