Mad Pecker Brewing Co. Plans to Close Its Doors After Nearly a Decade in San Antonio

Mad Pecker Brewing Co

SAN ANTONIO, TX – After nearly ten years of serving handcrafted beer, flavorful eats, and fostering community spirit in Northwest San Antonio, Mad Pecker Brewing Co. has announced it will close its doors. Located at 6025 Tezel Rd #122, this small-batch brewery and neighborhood taproom became a local favorite, cherished for its unique craft beers and welcoming atmosphere.

Owners Jason and Errika Gonzales first sparked their vision for Mad Pecker Brewing Co. in 2015, inspired by an unusual blend of a trail run, a woodpecker, and beer. The whimsical yet meaningful name, “Mad Pecker,” emerged from these seemingly unrelated elements, symbolizing creativity and resilience.

Initially home brewing out of their garage, the Gonzaleses soon transformed their passion into a thriving community hub. With no investors, they embraced independence, brewing beer in the same neighborhood they called home.

Their brewery’s story was characterized by innovation and rebellion against mainstream, mass-produced beer. Imagined as a determined outsider, the “Mad Pecker” sought refuge in a metaphorical forest ravaged by industrial brewing giants, determined to revolutionize tastes through unique, flavorful craft brews.

Mad Pecker Brewing Co. gained recognition for imaginative beers brewed in-house on their 3.5-barrel direct-fire system. Signature creations included the robust Mad House Porter, the vibrant Zoom & DOOM West Coast IPA, and the inventive DDH Lager Machine, dry-hopped with Crystal, Idaho 7 Cryo, and El Dorado Cryo hops.

Beyond beer, Mad Pecker became known for its authentic community connection and down-to-earth vibe. The taproom offered patrons a comfortable place to unwind, featuring tasty pizzas, bar bites, and a wide selection of craft beers.

In their combined anniversary and closure announcement, Jason and Errika Gonzales expressed gratitude to their dedicated customers and loyal staff, reiterating their commitment to the craft beer community and emphasizing that their journey was driven by passion, not recognition.

Mad Pecker Brewing Co.’s anniversary and closure mark the end of a beloved neighborhood gem, leaving a lasting legacy of creativity, passion, and dedication to craft brewing in San Antonio.
